How do you handle insurance?
We're an insurance-free practice. You and your doctor decide on your care, not an insurance network. Our prices are published up front, you know what your care plan costs before you begin, and there are no surprise bills. HSA and FSA funds are welcome, and you'll always get the doctor's full attention.
How much does NUCCA care cost?
Your first visit is $79 (regularly $250). It includes a health history review, non-invasive exams, a one-on-one consultation and, if NUCCA is a good fit, a personalized care plan. Care plan pricing is quoted at your report of findings, before any care begins, so you can decide with full information. See our pricing page for details.
How long does an appointment take?
Plan for about 45 to 60 minutes for your first visit. That gives us time to review your health history, complete your exams and explain what we find without rushing. Follow-up visits are shorter. We check your alignment, correct it only if needed, recheck and give you a few minutes to rest before you leave.
What should I wear and bring to my first visit?
Wear comfortable clothing that lets you lie down and relax. It helps to avoid necklaces, earrings and hair clips near the neck, since they can get in the way of imaging. Bring a photo ID, a list of your medications and any recent imaging or health records that relate to your symptoms.
Do you take X-rays?
When NUCCA care is appropriate, yes. Precise X-rays of the upper neck let us measure how your atlas has shifted and calculate the exact correction you need. We don't take images just because; your doctor decides based on your history and exam. If you have recent images from another provider, bring them, and we'll discuss whether they can help.
Can a gentle adjustment do anything?
Yes. A NUCCA correction is precise rather than forceful. Because it's calculated from your own measurements, a light, steady pressure in the right direction can guide the atlas toward better alignment. Think of it like threading a needle: accuracy matters more than strength. We recheck your alignment afterward so you can see the change for yourself.
Why do you say your adjustments don't hurt? No other docs say that.
Because a NUCCA correction is a light, steady pressure behind the ear, with no twisting, popping or cracking. You lie comfortably on your side, and most patients feel very little. Some feel deeply relaxed afterward. A few notice mild, temporary achiness as their posture adjusts, which usually passes quickly. If anything feels uncomfortable, tell us and we'll adapt.
How long does it take to recover?
It depends on you. How long you've had symptoms, past injuries, your overall health and how well your correction holds all play a role. Some patients notice changes within the first few visits, while long-standing problems usually take longer. Your doctor will give you a realistic timeline at your report of findings and track your progress along the way.
Why should I come more than once?
Because your body needs time to stabilize. After years of compensating, the muscles and ligaments around your neck have to adapt to a new position. Follow-up visits let us check whether your correction is holding and adjust only if you've shifted. How many visits you need depends on your situation, and your care plan spells it out before you start.
Do I have to keep coming forever?
No. The goal of NUCCA is a correction that holds, so you need fewer visits over time. As you stabilize, visits are spaced further apart. Once you're doing well, some patients choose occasional check-ups to stay on track, much like a dental cleaning. That choice is always yours, and we'll never pressure you.
Can I come in if I am pregnant?
Often, yes, but please tell us when you schedule. The NUCCA correction is gentle and is done while you lie on your side. During pregnancy, we take extra care with imaging and will talk through your options before doing anything. We're also glad to coordinate with your OB or midwife so everyone on your care team is on the same page.
How old does my child need to be to come in?
There's no minimum age. Because NUCCA is so gentle, we routinely care for infants and children. Your child's visit starts with a health history and an age-appropriate exam, and your doctor will explain each step to you before anything happens. If something in your child's history calls for their pediatrician first, we'll tell you.
Is NUCCA safe for seniors?
NUCCA is a good fit for many older adults because there's no twisting, popping or cracking, just a light pressure behind the ear. We routinely care for seniors. Every patient starts with a careful health history and exam, and your doctor considers conditions like osteoporosis or past neck surgery before recommending care. If NUCCA isn't right for you, we'll say so.
If I am taking medications, can I still see you?
Yes. NUCCA care works alongside the care you get from your physician. Please keep taking your medications as prescribed and bring a list to your first visit so your doctor has the full picture. Any decision to change a medication should always be made with the physician who prescribed it, never on your own.
Will your care interfere with surgery?
NUCCA care is not a substitute for surgery your physician recommends, and it isn't meant to compete with it. If you have surgery scheduled or have had a recent procedure, especially on your head or neck, tell us. We'll plan around your surgeon's guidance and recovery timeline, and coordinate with your other doctors when that's helpful.
If NUCCA care is so great, why don't all doctors do it?
NUCCA is a specialty that requires extra training beyond chiropractic school, plus specialized equipment and a detailed analysis for every patient. Many chiropractors choose other approaches that also help people. NUCCA simply isn't widely available, which is why we're one of the few NUCCA practices in the Houston area and why patients travel to see us.
If I don't have any symptoms, why should I come in?
You don't have to. But symptoms aren't always the first sign that something is off. Some people come in for a check-up after a fall, car accident or sports injury, or because a family member benefited. An exam can show whether your upper neck is balanced. If it is, we'll tell you so and you can go on your way.
